Beckler’s Botanical Bounty: The Flora of Menindie is a wonderful record of the efforts of a group of botanical illustrators who were inspired by the 150th anniversary of the Victorian Exploration Exhibition.
Over eight consecutive years, twenty-six artists have visited Beckler’s collecting grounds around Menindie to locate, collect, preserve and illustrate the same 120 plants species that Beckler collected in 1860–61. This dedication to illustration has turned into a significant scientific collection and has kept them busy for nearly a decade.
A number of the Cranbourne Friends Botanical Illustrators are exhibitors. If you have yet to see this fine exhibition, then please plan to do so as it closes on 27 May, 2018. Details can be found on the Art Gallery of Ballarat website.
