Botanical Weaving Group

In the new Friends’ Special Interest Group (SIG) for ‘Botanical Weaving’, Friends will discover a haven where ongoing learning, discussion and practice of the craft of weaving occur. The cost for the informal meetings is a $5 donation for morning or afternoon tea (with a choice of two small group sessions).  All skill levels are welcome, including beginners.

The Botanical Weaving group meets on the fourth Sunday of the month, every month, at the Elliot Centre, except December and January.  We plan to offer some paid workshops in 2025, with facilitators presenting different weaving activities, to add variety and creative stimulus to the group’s work.  These workshops will be open to other interested Friends and members of the public as well as Weaving group members.

In February and April this year, two Wild Weaving workshops, led by Indigenous artist Dr Jenine Godwin-Thompson, were offered at the Elliot centre. More recently in June, weavers enjoyed learning ‘How to Make a Dilly Bag’ with Boon Wurrung creative, Bianca Easton.

When we meet

Botanical Weavers meet on the 4th Sunday of the month at the Elliot Centre, with two times available. One group meets in the morning from 10.00 to 12.30, and a second group meets in the afternoon, from 1.30 to 4.00.

New participants are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Participation involves a $5 donation for morning or afternoon tea (in either of the two small group sessions).
