The FiGs – Friends in the Garden Volunteer Group – are all keen to work in, and learn about the Australian Garden with others of similar interests. New faces are always welcome. Under the guidance of the horticulture staff we help ‘beautify and detail’ the Australian Garden environment. Yes, you may be allowed on the red sand garden! Depending on the plan for the day we may spend our time weeding, edging, sweeping or raking paths, mulching, tidying garden beds, help on planting days.
When we meet
We meet on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 9.00 am near the Visitors’ Centre. There we have our ‘tool box’ meeting to discuss the morning’s activity and a coffee of course. Then it is off to the Australian Garden. We generally spend from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm in the Garden.
Christine Kenyon is now coordinating the first Tuesday group, while Sue Spicer is coordinating third Tuesday people. It is great that we now have two opportunities to meet and contribute each month.
Please note that all Special Interest Group members must conform with the RBGV’s Child Safe Program – Find out more.
What you will need to bring
Gardening gloves, kneeling mat or knee pads, sun hat and water.
