Note: Covid-19 pandemic. Special interest group meetings are on hold until after 13 April, 2020.
The FiGs – Friends in the Garden Volunteer Group – are all keen to work in, and learn about the Australian Garden with others of similar interests. New faces are always welcome. Under the guidance of the horticulture staff we help ‘beautify and detail’ the Australian Garden environment. Yes, you may be allowed on the red sand garden! Depending on the plan for the day we may spend our time weeding, edging, sweeping or raking paths, mulching, tidying garden beds, help on planting days.
When we meet
We meet on the fourth Wednesday morning of each month at 9.45 am in the staff administration building for our ‘tool box’ meeting to discuss the day’s activity: and a coffee or course. Then it is off to the Australian Garden. We generally spend from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm in the Garden.
What you will need to bring
Gardening gloves, kneeling mat or knee pads, sun hat and water.
In November 2019 we had four new members join and had a great morning weeding the swales between the display gardens. It was a beautiful day and we were delighted to receive a visit from John Arnott, Manager, Horticulture.
